Understanding Bed Bugs Treatment In Detail

Bedbugs are small, oval parasitic insects that feed exclusively on human blood. They are mostly found in warm places, near or inside the bed and other sleep areas. Bed bugs are mainly active at night and feed completely on their host. After feeding, their bodies swell and obtain a reddish color.
Bed bugs have flat body approximately equal to the size of an apple seed. Since bedbugs are active mainly at night and bite people during their sleep. They feed by piercing the skin and withdrawing blood through an elongated beak. They feed maximum 10 minutes and then crawl away unnoticed.
Most bites are painless at first and then turn into itchy welts because they feed on the area of skin left exposed during sleep.

Where to look for bedbugs:

  1. Bed & Furniture- Look under the mattress, box spring, bed frame, headboard, and footboard. Focus on the trim and seams of the mattress. Also, look inside the cracks and crevices Check the sheets and pillow cases, too. In addition to these, look at the sofa, couches, dressers, chairs, tables and other furniture.
  2. Windows and doors- Check the frames, drapes, curtains, and other shady space.
  3. Floorings, decorative materials, etc.

How to kill bedbugs- bed bugs treatment:

  • Inspect infested areas and surrounding living spaces to determine the extent of the infestation. Look for live or dead bed bugs, eggs, fecal stains or droppings
  • Anything removed from the room should be placed in a sealed plastic bag and treated.
  • Items that cannot be treated should be placed in a sealed plastic bag and left for an extended period of time to ensure any active bugs are dead.
  • Empty the vacuum after each use.
  • Use pesticides carefully according to the label directions.
  • Look for EPA registered pesticides.
  • Bed bugs must be listed on the label.
  • Use foggers (if needed) with extreme care. Improper use can cause fire or explosion.
  • If repeated bed bugs treatment are needed, consider Desiccants. As they are drying agents and can be effective in some situations since they work by drying out the bug due to which the bed bugs are unable to develop resistance to it. Moreover, Desiccants can be very effective because they can take up to several months to work. 

Warning:

  • Pesticides should always be used with caution, especially when used indoors.
  • Never use a pesticide for bed bugs that does not bear clear directions stating that it can be used indoors.
  • Follow the label safety directions carefully.
  • Pesticide labels contain directions for use that are not merely suggestions. Failure to follow directions exactly is illegal and can result in poor control and possible harm to yourself and family.
  • Do not apply any products to the skin in an attempt to kill bugs. This can be dangerous for your health.
